This is a first lesson I use when teaching Geography to my students. This activity allows students to engage in conversation with each other and to have an idea of what geography is. This is a minor activity to allow students to put their thinking caps on and work with others at the start of schools or a new unit. This work sheet is designed for students to use a higher level of thinking and explain the type of map they are looking at. It is designed to see their metacognition (thinking process). It only works if they can explain their answer.

Great graphic organizer for students to use while reading a text. This will help them keep the important information of a text organized. Great first resource when teaching students how to generate questions from a text.

This is a chart I have provided to students to help them when determining a credible source. You can have students use it as a check list while they are working, or something to reference back to.

I use this as an intro lesson the first week of school. Gives students a chance to prove they can use a textbook and is a team building activity for the class. I left this as a word document so you can edit it for a textbook you have in the classroom.

Students will complete an online webquest about Otzi the Iceman. I have 7 different tasks listed for them but you can go to the website and add your own tasks you would like them to complete. You can use this as classwork, homework, or something you guys do together. Students will need access to a computer or print out the articles if you are doing something school.

This activity allows students to learn about different types of maps while reading about the map, and looking at them. Each map comes with a short reading and 2-3 questions about it. You can have students do this as an extra assignment, whole class assignment, independent study, or homework assignment. I provided students with a couple of different text. I did not own the text so they are not provided. Students had to go through the text and pull out different information that determined what each social class provided to society. They explained the differences between each social class and their advantages and disadvantages. After this activity students created their own visual of a social class pyramid using the information they gathered.

In this lesson students will learn how humans lived and adapted during the Paleolithic period. They are asked to take some notes and then have an assignment to complete. This was a homework assignment I used for students to explain the different inventions they had learned about. Students are to describe 4 inventions of any kind in Mesopotamia. They will then write a letter to their teacher describing why one of the inventions is important.

I used this worksheet at the end of the movie for students to connect to the movie and complete a self evaluation.

Once by Morris Gleitzman is an amazing book that I am reading with my 7th graders. I have read this with my ELA class as well as Social Studies. The story follows a young boy who is Jewish, that is unaware of the holocaust. Living in Poland in 1942 he is on the run to go save his parents bookshop. Felix is filled with imagination, wonder, ignorance, and innocence. The story is a quick read and keeps students engaged. I work in a school with very low reading scores and this book was easy to follo

This is a week long project that students complete at home. You can make it a 2-3 day activity in class if you have technology for them to complete research with. I provide students with people in history at random or you can allow them to choose. I have not provided a list of names because what I use is not owned by me. A quick and simple quiz to test students knowledge and ability on their map skills. Can be a great pre assessment as well.

In this activity students get to form a conversation between someone from Sparta and Athens. The point of the conversation is to describe life in their city state and they can be as creative as they would like. Students need to use all 5 vocabulary words while having their conversation. I have included a model of a conversation as well as a a writing template for the script. I usually supply them with 3 pages of a blank script and keep extras in case some students need them.

This three page document allows students to practice remotely on labeling the earth. Map 1 allows you to label the 7 continents and the 5 oceans Map 2 allows you to label the equator and the prime meridian Map 3+4 allows you to label the different hemispheres.

This lesson is an updated version of my original assignment to locate the 5 different parts of a map. Students are to match the numbers with the different parts of a map. The vocabulary words are in the google slides. The slides are bare because I removed my bitmoji and other activities. If you have nearpod I highly recommend using nearpod activities inside of this presentation.
