Experience

I’ve been a preschool teacher, an elementary school teacher (kindergarten, first grade, fourth grade) and a middle school teacher (fifth-eighth grade language arts). I was one of three top elementary teachers in Cochise County in 2018. I worked as a substitute teacher. I have a bachelor’s degree in agricultural biology from Cal Poly University in Pomona, California, where I was a President’s Council Scholar. I worked as a county agricultural biologist in California for several years. I have a master’s degree in education from the same institution.

Teaching style

Sight, sound, movement, songs, creating - I used it all. Especially creating things. One entire corner of my room was filled with "stuff" to build with: small boxes, toilet paper rolls, bits of cardboard, yarn, googly eyes, ribbon, etc. Anything and everything that could be used to construct objects. These handmade objects were talked about, written about, compared, measured, labeled, explained, and used within all curriculum areas. Students loved to learn when the learning involved something that he or she had created.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was a President's Council Scholar at Cal Poly University, Pomona, California and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I was chosen as one of the top three best elementary school teachers in Cochise County, Arizona in 2018.
