Easy to fill in handout for 5th grade. Give it to them without reading any directions. Tell them to fill it in and then color/decorate. Best part of this sheet is to see how they decide to place answers and how to sign their name. Discuss after. Ask them to look at other papers to see how we all read directions differently and how we all present our work differently.

Worksheet to be given out on those first days when everything is new and students are not sure of their new classroom. Let them fill this out with no directions given. See how they present their work. Let them know that they can ask questions but you want to see what they know about themselves and the numbers in their lives.

Worksheet for 2nd graders to show you their thoughts about science. The beginning of the year is the time to see how students can show you their work. Let them use the words and thoughts that they know to be true to them. Let them know that everyone sees and "feels" colors in different ways. Science should be fun!

Measurement practice. Once students understand how to measure, have them measure these pages. You are given 4 sheets, measure in cm, mm, or inches. Directions on each and an example is given on how to write their measurements onto the lines. Make sure that they put the unit next to each of their measurements. Good practice in measuring lines that need to all be represented in showing the size of a drawings lines. Good for engineering practices. You can also do these with the students on y

In science drawing the concept is fun for the students and they can easily show what they know and see. You can do this with the class, box by box or you can set them loose to read the description and fill it all in, front and back. In science, observation of color and form are important and how a child portrays what he or she sees is important in them learning to show this. There are multiple animals that they can draw in each box and they will be using their creativity to show what they kno

This is a short lesson on color. It is good for group work, they can follow the sheets and can think about color all around them in nature. What is the difference of how color is thought of in science vs. art. Three lab ideas are included. Good work for students to really think and look at the world around them.

GeoHead - Geographic Landform Project - Students will list as a class as many landforms as possible. After their profile is traced they will come up with a theme that names their "land". They will view their list of the landforms that they have listed, they will choose the landforms that their land will contain. They will number and name their landforms as they draw them onto their own profile which is their main land. This project teaches them how to go through steps to accomplish their o

This is a fun project that has the students design and build their own Mars Rover. After learning about the other rovers on Mars, the students will be given "Mars Money" and they will build and design a rover. They will also decide what ten items they would take to Mars and they will keep a running expense sheet of what they have "purchased" in order to make their rover. I have added notes, lists of items that you will need, pictures to give examples and have included a science reading of Lif

Center answer sheets and animal pictures that generate thinking and allow the 2nd and 3rd grade students to write about what they think and what they see. Allows them to move in centers to work on matching a picture with the answer sheet that corresponds to their questions. There are no wrong answers, let them tell you in writing what they know or think about the animals that are presented to them. Science writing.

This project puts together the measurement skills for students using cm, mm, and inches. After learning the basics of measurement you can use these included sheets to have students measure lines, measure lines in pictures, and to finally design a House of Measurement that they will design. I have included my sheets that you can copy to hand out, some sheets that you can have the students make (their hand to measure) and I have included the rubric, examples and a test if you need an assessment.

Teaching style

Project based learning. Have the students learn the basics and find and activity that models what they are learning or have learned. In the past 3 years I have stopped testing and their projects and classwork has made them retain ideas and facts better than regurgitating information on a written test.

My own education history
