This is a Proficiency Scale for Students to use to monitor their own learning. It is written for the Alabama COS 4.3:Determine and justify solutions for multi-step word problems, including problems where remainders must be interpreted. I have marked which Standard this covers from other states. Teachers can use it to check understanding for each section of the standard. I would create a quiz for each section to use when a student says they have mastered that level.

Teaching style

I have always used Strategic Teaching strategies in my classroom. I taught using cooperative groups when everyone around me thought I was crazy. I am trained in the Science of Reading and Orton Gillingham. I use whole group and small group differentiated instruction. My classroom management style is based on rewards and consequences. Since becoming an Instructional Coach, I have enjoyed supporting teachers as they learn and use new strategies.
