This can be used as an introductory activity or as a review to identify main idea and supporting details. Students will match supporting detail sentence strips to the corresponding main idea. Students can be put onto teams to be completed as a relay race. If completed in groups, this allows discussion and debate about which supporting details belong with which main idea--truly allowing students to understand the purpose of supporting details. This pack includes activities to support L.4.1f (produce complete sentences, recognizing and correcting inappropriate fragments and run-ons). It includes an introduction matching game for conjunctions (L.4.2c) to teach students about the meaning of each type of conjunction. It also provides students an opportunity to practice correcting run-on sentences using specific conjunctions to combine two complete clauses and/or punctuation marks to separate them in a variety of activities.
