About the store
This is my 13th year in teaching middle school; six years as a 6th grade math teacher and six years as a 7th grade teacher. I've found that with the change to Common Core, our textbooks are just outdated and don't match my way of teaching concrete math in order to help understanding. My goal every year for my students who express to me that they don't like math, is to have them at least for one day (hopefully more) to say that they had enjoyed the class and the lesson when they didn't expect to.
This is my eighth year of teaching majority of special education classes. I think by teaching these classes I have become a better mathematician and a better teacher because of learning how to concretely get them to understand a topic before getting into algorithms.

Real Life Average with GPA
This activity has 15 report cards where students have to translate the letter grades into numbers so that the Grade Point Average can be found. This document is a word document, not a PDF in case you want to change the subjects according to your school. I know with my sixth graders, it is their first year with understanding the meaning of grades as well as GPA and it has been a learning experience for my classes every time I do this with them. This PPT practices multiplying fractions without and with cross simplifying. There are 8 slides of practice of multiplying straight across, then there are 12 problems with showing them how to cross simplify step by step. It's a great visual! I color coded each diagonal.

Shows step by step :) This Activity Reviews Long Division (12 practice slides), and has 3 slides used for introducing dividing decimals. These three slides will allow students to try dividing decimals and figuring out the decimal rule on their own. This can be used for 5th grade after teaching long division, or for 6th grade as a review and an introduction.

I've noticed in the classroom that when you teach the topics of adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals individually, students can be quick learners. The true test is can they do all of them accurately when mixed together.
This PowerPoint has 12 practice problems with the 3 decimal operations. With adding and subtracting problems, each problem involves a placeholder.

6NSB2 Double Digit Long Division with Decimal Divisor Extension
*This product aligns with the Common Core Math Standard of 6.NS.B.2. with double digit divisor. There are 17 practice problems, as well as answers to each. On the answer page of the PowerPoint, it goes through each step of the problem so students can check to see if they have any mistakes. If they do they are able to see if it was a calculation error and/or an organization error.
**As an extension activity, this PowerPoint also introduces decimals in the divisor along with 5 practice problems.

Teaching style
I like student centered activities; any exploration or use of manipulatives in the classroom is the best way to get students engaged. I like using PowerPoint for practice where students can use dry erase boards. I probably using this type of practice at least twice a week.
As I moved to 7th grade I found it challenging to find activities that students like to do. I focus more on scaffolding so that we, teacher and student, can take small steps in grasping the concept.
