Multiplying and Dividing Integers: Color By Number

This assignment is for students to practice integer rules with multiplication and division. To go along with the computational component is a color by number page, in which students will use their solutions to determine what color to use on the coloring page. This is a great assignment to use for homework after teaching a lesson on basic rules of multiplying and dividing integers.

Volume of Cylinders, Cones, Spheres Problem Solving

This product contains 3 separate activities that reinforce volume calculation. Each activity challenges students to problem solve using word problems and diagrams to calculate the volume of cones, cylinders, and/or spheres. I used each of these three activities as a reinforcing activity the day after I introduced the volume formula for the different figures. The last activity incorporates 3D composite figures and challenges students to draw pictures and find the total volume of real-world comp

Parallel Lines Cut by Transverals, and Interior and Exterior Angles in Triangles

This can be used as a homework assignment, a class activity, or even enrichment! Students are challenged to recall the rules of congruency in corresponding angles, vertical angles, alternate exterior angles, and interior adjacent angles, and apply rules of solving equations to find the missing values. Also included are several problems that deal with interior and exterior angles of triangles. Again, students will need to solve algebraic equations in order to find the missing values. This item

Problem Solving with Volume: Cylinders, Cones, and Spheres

This product contains 7 higher level word problems that are all associated with volume. Students will have to calculate the volume of composite 3D figures that are made up of cones, cylinders, and spheres. Students are encouraged to draw a picture and label each figure with dimensions before performing the calculations. This product is a word document, so you may edit it to fit the needs of your classroom and your students. Answer key is included!

Valentine's Day Breakfast Party - Calculating Sales tax and Percent Discount

This 2 part activity gives students the opportunity to "plan the perfect breakfast party" while working with percent applications. Part 1: Students are given a list of breakfast items of varying prices, each of which will be taxed (the sales tax rate varies for each item). Students choose 5 breakfast items for their party. They must set up a percent proportion to calculate the sales tax of each individual item, and then find the new price of each item. Finally, they must determine how much mone

Rate of Change or Slope Maze

This resource was created for practice determining slope/rate of change from tables and verbal descriptions. Upon successful completion, students find slope from 4 tables and 2 verbal descriptions. The maze has the typical trap answers as possibly routes, so students must be careful with positives and negatives, as well as ensuring they don't mistakenly put x values on top of y values in their answer.

Geometry and Area: Valentine's Day

This activity requires students to utilize their formulas for calculating the area of different two-dimensional geometric figures. Students will be given the opportunity to put a creative spin on the project, as they will be calculating the area of hearts and words to make a Valentine. There is a student example in the preview. You will notice the word LOVE as well as hearts that contain specific measurements - these are the items in which students will be working to compute area. They will work

Valentine's Day Surface Area of Prisms

I use this lesson to introduce surface area to my 8th grade students. I have found that in the past, teaching surface area of prisms by using the formulas on the formula chart is not only unsuccessful, but incredibly frustrating for me and for the students alike. Big B versus little b? Capital P? Aren’t there 2 heights in this shape? Triangular prisms and rectangular prisms requiring different work, but using the same formula? It was my least favorite concept to teach, and I dreaded it every yea

Valentine's Day Heart: Area of Composite Shapes

Are your students practicing calculating the rea of different geometric figures? BONUS -- is it February?! (if not, that's OK... keep on reading (: ) This is the perfect activity for your students to do to practice calculating area of composite shapes. It includes a Happy Valentine's Day message and a Valentine's Day Mathy Pun. There are 5 different puns provided, and a blank heart as well if you'd rather not have the Valentine's Day Theme. The unique heart design includes two congruent semi-cir

Exponent Properties: Two Truths and a Lie

This resource is a fun way to get students engaged in practicing their exponent properties. Students are challenged to find out which of 3 exponent property expressions is the "lie" by evaluating all 3 and seeing which one is the odd one out. This resource reinforces the Product Rule, Quotient Rule, Power Rule, and Negative Exponent Rule. An answer key is provided. **9 practice problems in all of varying difficulty. Product is a word doc, so you're able to edit to fit the needs of your student

Sales Tax and Discount Percent Proportions Activity

This activity challenges students to use various percent proportions to calculate the cost of an outfit (that they design) where each item is discounted. Students must set up percent proportions to find the amount of the discount, or the percent at which the item was discounted. Finally, students must calculate the total cost of the outfit with sales tax added in. My students love this activity because they get to "design" the outfit - I try to incorporate outlets for creativity in math whereve
