This is a graphic organizer designed to help students organize their approach to nonfiction texts. Students are exposed to a list of text features, text types, and text structures in order to choose which ones fit the text in front of them. Students are also able to identify author's purpose, key vocabulary, and take notes on key details to determine two main ideas. These features can all be aligned with the Common Core Standards for informational texts as well as with MAP NWEA.

This is a bundle of 4 graphic organizers. The first is a graphic organizer for students to take notes on an educational video. There is room to record three details and a main idea. There is also space for students to create a sketch and label it. This organizer is useful when leaving plans for a substitute...and the sketching portion keeps ALL students on task for the substitute.
The second organizer is a simple four box organizer. This is intended to be used as the video organizer but for you
This is a simple graphic organizer I use with students learning to structure their five paragraph informational essays. It gives students sentence starters and transition words that align to the Common Core. Once students use this graphic organizer to site information and organize their information consistently, they will be able to write without the organizer. I see them use either the same or different transition words but understand the format in which to write to convey their ideas.

This is a template for teaching how to write an acrostic poem. Attention: I created this the week before our school went to the see film Bears so the instructions tell students to write an acrostic about bears. Change the topic to whatever you like.

This is a list of sentence stems for writing a simple informational paragraph. I often use this with the program Read Naturally instead of having students write an open-ended summary. This file is in Word format so you may edit it. Enjoy!

This is a very simple graphic organizer to help students learn to site evidence for a character's viewpoint in a story. Add pictures to make it more appealing!
This is a color-coded graphic organizer which supports students in writing four paragraphs about the food, landforms, location, and climate of a country. The file is in Word format so you may edit it. Enjoy!
This is a SIMPLE graphic organizer for students to cite examples of figurative language as they read. I have posters/other resources for students with definitions of types of figurative language to look for (similes, metaphors, idioms, etc.) and students fill in the organizer with the type of figurative language and example from the text. Students may struggle at first but once they get the hang of this, they will want to have one by there side whenever they read!
This is an entry/exit slip template for students to record a short answer to quick entry and exit questions. This is in PDF format but recreated easily on Comic Life. There are spaces for five days. Enjoy!
This PDF contains three different versions of an entry/exit slip with an organizer for a specific comprehension strategy in the center. Skills include main idea/detail, theme, and sequencing. The last page is a word bubble. This may be used in a number of ways. We used it to add new words to our window in cloud version to increase student vocabulary. Enjoy!
This is an explanation and graphic organizer for students to create a synonym poem. A synonym poem takes one word and dissects it using synonyms. The last line is a phrase describing the original word. A simple poem structure but a great activity to teach synonyms and get students to feel successful writing poetry.
This is a graphic organizer for students to use when first exploring poetry or continuing to understand poetry on different levels throughout a poetry unit. It gives students directions to rate 10 poems on a scale from 1 to 10 and give a reason for the rating. This form lends itself to push students to define what specific elements of a poem are appealing to them (or not). Regardless, students connect with the poems and identify elements of poetry throughout.
