This activity teaches adding and subtracting linear expressions step by step. Students will first have to match the linear expressions to their answer. They will cut out the strips and glue them in their notebook. Then after getting their work approved they will go to the next activity. The second activity has students using given variables and numbers fill in the blank spaces making the linear expressions true. The last activity has them adding and subtracting linear expressions on their own. A
This is a great lab activity to help students connect functions, slopes, linear equations, and graphing to the real world. Students will determine how many cups it takes to stack up to the desk. Students will use two cups and a ruler to determine the answer.
This is a great powerpoint that guides the think pair share process. Students will first start with simplifying the expression themselves. After the timer on the powerpoint runs out they will work with their group to talk about their answers. After that timer runs out you will call on groups at random to share their answers. The Timers on the powerpoint help with time management. After each three timers have gone off, the answer will pop up.
Guided notes on simplifying expressions. There is a picture that has the answer key on it. I made an anchor chart with them to keep for the year.

Experience
I am a current 7th grade teacher in the South Bend public schools. I graduated from Bowling Green State University.
Teaching style
Math doesn't have to be boring just because your students are older. I believe secondary math can have an elementary math foundation. Students can be engaged in math through interactive notebooks, math centers, and exploration activities.
Awards & shining teacher moments
Completed the ED TPA with a proficient score
My own education history
Graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2016 with a middle school education in math and science. I am currently working on my masters in curriculum and technology integration at BSU.
