Common Core Writing: 5th grade Narrative Writing Rubric

I created this writing rubric directly using the 5th Grade Writing Standard, W.3 (Narrative Writing expectations). The majority of the writing rubrics I had searched were mainly multi-grade and very generic. Because the Common Core Writing standards are aligned similarly from grade to grade, this Rubric could be modified so that you can generate specific grade-level targets for your 3rd, 4th, or even 6th grade standards. Students use the Benchmark Fractions of 0, 1/2, and 1 to estimate the sum of two fractions with UNlike denominators. This lesson utilizes Fraction Bars and a fraction numberline to determine if the sum is less than, greater than or equal to 1 whole. This lesson also asks

It uses the benchmark fractions of 0, 1/2 and 1 on a number line and fraction bar visuals to compare fractions with unlike denominators. There is an

A GREAT way to find out your students' reading interests! I have personally used this student self-assessment with 4th through 8th graders. It includes visuals to help ELL's and struggling readers. It's a great tool for teachers to use at the beginning of the year to plan for reading or literature groups, book-choices in the classroom libraries, etc. I like to have the students revise their responses in the middle of the year and reflect upon their growth and monitor their goals to continue
