In this new era of remote learning we have all had to convert our typical projects and plans to remote learning opportunities. I started with the pet rock project I typically give this time of year. It includes every piece I upload and ideas on how to translate between paper and pencil and digital resources.

A mini-unit designed to give students an abundance of hands-on measuring experience. This unit starts with a lab to help students understand why there are universal measurement systems. Then, students take notes on measuring devices before they jump into a lab where they measure table "mascots." To prepare for an assessment (or could be used as a group assessment) students complete a measurement race to put their new skills to the test.

I've used this unit outline for several years and the kids love it. This is more of a lesson plan outline than a print-and-go. You will have to source your own articles for students to read. They enjoy making mini-posters and the process clearly teaches cause and effect, addressing NGSS, CCSS, CM, etc.

This is a great activity as a stand-alone or as part of my measurement unit plan. Give students ownership over their measuring skills by providing table/pod/group "mascots" that they will use to learn how to measure length, mass, and volume by displacement.

A GREAT way to engage students in practicing measurement skills. Students work to measure lengths, volumes and masses in a competitive atmosphere.

As students finish up assignments, they can put their understanding to use by completing one of these tasks. The tear and go style adds a fun element to the work.
