About the store
I love teaching, learning, exploring nature, and connecting with people. My students are wonderful. Year after year, I never cease to be amazed by what they bring to the table. That's not to say that this job isn't tough. It's SO tough! Often we can feel like we are on an island, and our unreasonable workload is piled too high, and the needs are so diverse, we are often left stressing on how we will be able to meet them all! Providing great lessons to our students should always be our top priority. That should go without saying, but if you are a teacher, then you know all too well that according to the "powers that be" this is something that falls into place when you are "checking all the boxes" (mostly paperwork) that have been lovingly provided for you. Lesson planning is creative work. Just like any art, it requires much of your heart and soul to translate into greatness. Luckily, there are many of us out there, pouring our heart and soul into what we do. Searching the web endlessly for teaching ideas is my unhealthy pastime. However, a lot of good has come from it. I take ideas that I have heard of, read about, or watched on Youtube, and I reformat them to fit the needs of my class. Every time I do this, I add a resource page so that the user can do the same. My goal is to share lessons with as many wholehearted individuals as possible. Public education may be suffering, but if we work together, our teachers and our students can suffer less. All of my lessons are free. I do appreciate feedback. So if you like something, or not, please leave a comment.

Recognition of Community Impact

Years ago, I discovered Kessler Science’s end-of-year science superlative awards and immediately loved the idea. When I began teaching Aquatic Science, I created my own content-specific awards, but with nearly 200 students each year, it quickly became clear that I didn’t have the capacity to give them out consistently. So I shifted to a new, much more sustainable strategy. Now, students, and myself, can submit a Google Form to recognize peers or teachers around the school for doing something awe

I teach Aquatic Science as a semester-long course, and my classroom is home to 18 fish tanks. Each tank is managed by a group of 5–6 students (and yes, 6–7 would definitely be too many 😉). Throughout the semester, students research how to design a functioning, healthy ecosystem for their fish. They set up, cycle, and maintain their tanks- learning everything from water chemistry to habitat design. At the end of the course, students either take their fish home or surrender them to a local aquari

This activity is meant to be an interactive experience in which students cross genotypes from parent organisms (unicorns, dragons, or flowers) and analyze the probability of the offspring having specific traits.  Once students complete their 3 sets of punnett squares, they can choose their preferred genotypes (provided from the Punnett square results) and make a poster of the offspring.   This activity is freely shared.  I just have students complete the assignment in their journals. If you make

This web quest is an opportunity to provide students with independent work- reading about climate change through NASA's "Climate Kids" website, or this activity can be broken up into groups. Each group is assigned a topic in bold. They will create a slideshow that answers all of the questions listed under their topics and present to the class. The audience can take notes so that they can answer questions on a quiz that follows. This activity is appropriate for middle school and high school

Instructions:  Students start by making a t-chart in their journal.  I have students put a “check” over one column and an “x” over the other column.  This works well for multilingual learners, but you can also have them write “safe” and “not safe”Students watch the video and write down as many “safe” and “not safe” actions as they can catch. I give about 60 to 90 seconds for students to look at one another's pages and copy anything they may have missed. We then move onto “SAFE” and “Not Safe”.

In this debate, all of the information is provided. Students do not have to research anything. They will read the information provided, and choose a law to defend their side. This activity will work great in an aquatic science class or environmental science class. It takes up about 45 minutes, there are multiple case studies to choose from, and each case study is based off of a real Supreme Court case. ESL (Spanish) materials are provided. If you like this activity, or would like to sugge

This activity empowers students to take the lead on ensuring a safe classroom environment by having them research each safety topic and present to the class. They can choose their preferred format of presenting (slideshow, skit, poster, infographic, video). My kids had a lot of fun with it and it is a great way to introduce projects in to the classroom with a low stakes activity. I follow up on this on with a lab safety quiz. The google slides can be accessed here. The rubric can be acce

Google Slides HERE. Students create a name tent and fill out three facts about themselves on an index card. The first fact is very broad and then each fact after is more and more specific. The goal is for the last fact to be so specific that it would apply to no-one else in the room. All students stand up. I pull a random card and state, "Remain standing if..." I continue through each of the facts until only one student remains standing. This activity pairs well with a time capsule p

Teaching style

My teaching style emphasizes hands-on, real-world experiences that make learning engaging and meaningful. I focus on collaborative projects, interactive experiments, and reflective activities that encourage students to explore and understand scientific concepts deeply. My approach is student-centered and inclusive, aiming to inspire curiosity and a lifelong passion for science.

My own education history

I have a BS in Kinesiology with a focus on Exercise Physiology. My minor is in Biology. Student groups that I have experience working with are: general eduction, special education, English as a second language, and advanced placement. Courses I have taught are: - Special Education, Resource - Special Education, Life Skills - Special Education, Inclusion - Aquatic Science, Astronomy, IPC - Science 6-8 (prior to '24 TEKS change)

Additional biographical information

My goal is to post as many completed lesson plans as possible this school year. Too many of us are working tirelessly without any curriculum provided and having to come out of pocket for it. For now my materials will remain free.
