Summer Vocabulary Matching Cards

Build math and science skills by helping children identify similarities and differences. These summer vocabulary cards can be used multiple ways. Use them as matching cards or a memory game. Another way to make this activity concrete would be to take these cards with you when you take children outside and have them find the objects in the pictures. Lastly, you could use these cards to help facilitate a fun scavenger hunt!

This is a more concrete vocabulary matching activity. Pair cards with actual toy animals or stuffed animals. Put all in a bin. I recommend introducing this activity as a teacher-led activity before making activity available for children to choose independently. After children master this activity, see my other resource "Animal Silhouettes Vocabulary Matching Cards" to increase the difficulty and to challenge children.

About the store

Experience

11+ years in Early Childhood, 3 years in public school setting

Teaching style

My approach to teaching is founded upon child-centered, developmentally appropriate practices that factor in the whole child. High expectations and challenges are important for children's growth and development, but children can rise to those challenges in the context of authentic relationships.

My own education history

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Visual Arts. I taught for three years in the public school setting: 5th grade high ability once and 3rd grade high ability twice. As a school teacher, I worked in an International Baccalaureate-accredited school.

Additional biographical information

I have worked in the field of Early Childhood for over 11 years. I have done everything from being an assistant teacher in a special education preschool classroom and in a full day classroom with children of varying abilities and in a kindergarten readiness classroom. I was a lead teacher in a visual arts summer camp at a preschool, and I now teach as an Infant and Toddler Specialist.
