I'm Lauren :) I've taught 3rd-5th grade for 12 years now! I teach ELL students in Illinois. I have loved this new journey to create my own items. It has given me freedom to design things the way I feel best helps my students.
My students LOVE learning random facts! And, that's exactly what this is! Enjoy a new fact for each day of the school year. I put these outside my "Kafe" themed room for the school to enjoy and learn. Even as an adult I didn't even know some of these! Have students research new facts, write about these facts, or research information about the animals/items included in the facts.
Woo hoo! 8 pages for each of the over 50 sorts in the Syllables and Affixes book from the Word Work program Words Their Way. Sweet little sayings to help kids get excited for the test! Can be used with standardized tests, or any test! 12 sayings, with 12 candy types. I will use these for the ACCESS/PARCC tests.
Kids LOVE these because they try to figure out my "punny" saying, and they need a little boost before the test. They can't wait to see which candy they get each test. Just a little motivation!
I've been adding more candy as I come across one I can think of!
Candy needed is: Airheads, Crunch Bars, Starbursts
These posters will offer students a way to check their effort and decide how hard they are working at achievement. I have used a variety of detailed criteria to allow students to see how they can grow their level as well.
I am using these to grow their mindset and help to create awareness amongst my students for how well they are trying to learn the concepts. There is a correlation between effort and learning so I am hoping to use these posters to show students that Level 4 can help them to le
This file contains a multiple choice test for each of the 50 sorts in the Within Words book from the Words Their Way program. The sorts are from the 2nd edition (2008-2009) editions of WTW.
Each word has 4 choices to choose from, and students can circle or highlight the choice they feel is correct.
This is a great way to differentiate for students who need guidance and support, or a great way to practice the test mid-week for students to self monitor their progress.
Hope you enjoy!
This word journal is great for students to have in their personal book box or writing tool box. Students can grab and go, allowing teachers to focus on their teaching groups.
They can use the grade level list of no excuse words during writing. Then, they can add needed words to the lettered pages to keep with them for future use.
Also included in the back are lists of topic based words that students can use.
Topic Lists include:
-color words
-calendar words
-nice words
-not nice words
-taste

Here are 20 task cards that review properties of addition and multiplication. The cards will review commutative, associative, identity, and distributive properties. I tried to incorporate 4 types of questions that get harder as the number of card increases.
A recording sheet is included as well as an answer key.
This set of task cards has QR codes that the students can scan to check their answers. I find this very helpful to self correct and stay independent. You can download a QR reader app
Voices Bulletin Board for 6 traits. Includes VOICES letters on black and colored circles, as well as the description of which trait goes which letter.
Goals are included. 6 goals for each category. I like the students to select their own goals if they can identify what they need to work on.
Use like Daily 5 Cafe Strategies where students can select their own personal goal after writing strategies are listed.
I also included a recording sheet that lists all the goals that can be used to track
Use these to type your name, print on card stock, and staple to a GINORMOUS Pixy Stix! Kids will love them!!! You can use Laffy Taffy sticks, pencils, or any other item to celebrate.
My class sings/yells happy birthday at the end of the day to give each kid a day to remember.
Self checking task cards that help students review similes and metaphors. They read the statement, choose whether they think it is a simile or metaphor and then scan the QR code using a QR scanning device to check if they're correct.
Posters to teach with and display for the 5 non fiction text structures. I like to use these to help kids reference when finding structures in non fiction. I also ask them to refer to them during writing when they are working on a non fiction piece.
Enjoy!

Notice and Note is one of the best close reading books I have read. It helped me to focus my instruction and helps students focus their questions and thoughts.
This file is posters for the 6 signposts taught in the book. You could use these posters to teach close reading if you do not have the book, but I highly suggest it.
