Determining structure before determining summarizing strategy. I created these task cards to address a difficulty my students were having in setting a purpose for reading and note taking. We were discussing ways to annotate texts "Notice and Note" and they were having a hard time choosing WHAT they needed to notice.  We reviewed the two major plot summary strategies and began trying to distinguish between literary and informational texts as a way to guide our annotation.
