Use this poem at the beginning of the year to help build classroom community by having students learn more about each other while reinforcing parts of speech. Not only can this versatile poem be used for getting to know each other, but it can also be used throughout the year to describe science topics such as seasons, animals, habitats, states of matter, or to describe settings and characters in stories. This book is a great resource to help your child learn to count, recognize numbers and learn number words! It also features ten frames which help with visualizing the sums of ten. This packet guides students in writing a narrative story about St. Patrick’s Day. It includes a graphic organizer for students to plan their writing, writing paper and story starter prompts for students who need some help with ideas. As an extension, I’ve included directions for students to create a Wordle using their story. Use these versatile story cubes as a prompt to encourage creative writing. Roll the green cube to identify the main character of your story. Roll the blue cube for your setting and roll the yellow cube for your plot. This is appropriate for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade.

Students learn vocabulary on a deeper level by using the words in their own sentences, looking for synonyms and antonyms, and drawing a picture to help them remember the words. The half sheets can be stapled together to make a vocabulary book. This is appropriate for 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th grade.

The partners find another pair who used a different strategy and explain why they used the strategies they did.
