Julia and the Shark: 4-Week Novel Study This 4-week language arts and integrated science course guides students through Kiran Millwood Hargrave’s beautifully illustrated novel, Julia and the Shark. This interactive lesson is designed for Jr. Engineers to explore the ocean habitat. The class introduces students to a variety of marine life, including whales, dolphins, jellyfish, sea turtles, octopuses, seahorses, crabs, eels, sharks, manta rays, and starfish. Lesson Structure The class is structured into three main interactive segments: Storytime: A suggested reading of the children's book "Commotion in the Ocean" by Giles Andreae to introduce the theme. This is an interactive lesson plan designed to teach preschool-aged children what a habitat is. It defines a habitat as a place where an animal lives that provides all the food and shelter it needs to survive.
