I created this resource as a follow-up activity from teaching words their way sorts 25 and 26 (Greek and Latin Elements Numerical Prefixes). Students will apply/extend their knowledge of numerical prefixes to create a "Numerical Prefix Monster." My students loved this activity and it was engaging for them to do rather than spew out answers on a traditional "fill in the blank" or "matching" worksheet. It also makes for a really cute hallway display!
This Valentine's Day Volume Box Extension Project is a great way to connect volume concepts to hands-on real life, hands-on math for your students! Students will need to bring in a box (cereal, shoe, cracker, soda, whatever works!) from home for this project prior to completing this. We did the math work before the decorating. It walks them through area, perimeter, 2D/3D shapes, as well as volume concepts. Prior to completing this activity, my students had almost completed a full unit on volume
This is an application/connection activity that I created for my fifth grade students. Students are given a scenario where they have to name the amendment from the Bill of Rights that applies to the scenario. My students love doing these! An opportunity for early finishers/enrichment is to have students come up with a scenario on their own and have a partner/group/class guess their amendment!
