This resource supports the Red Band in Open Court Reading in sequencing a story. After reading How A House is Built in Unit 5 students will practice sequencing the steps they studied. Teachers can collect as an assessment to the indicator.

Enjoy having your students practice either independently or in small groups the sight words of each Open Court Unit. This activity has them "rainbow write" aka trace the word in a variety of colors to practice repetition and also write the word with a pencil to encourage strong handwriting skills. Great practice to follow along with your curriculum!

To support the objective of retelling/sequencing the parts of the story in the Red band of Unit 4 give students one strip of picture cards to sequence the order of how the characters enjoyed the rides from Wild Rides text. If writers are ready they can label the picture/ride segmenting their letter sounds on the lines provided.

As you enjoy reading and comparing multiple versions of the classic Gingerbread Stories this writing activity asks students to circle their favorite and then write/draw about their favorite part. Enjoy!

Use this resource to support the learning of Story Elements in the Open Court text: The Golden Window (Unit 5 Lesson 3). Students focus on the character, setting, and lesson in this Fable. They can show their learning by drawing the Setting of the Story... a house with golden windows... in their journals and the teacher puts a Label to record the task. Print using Avery 5160 30 label sheets.

To support the Red Band in Open Court for Unit 4 give each student a label in their classroom journal to predict if the character (Green Engine) makes it up the mountain or not. Pause the read aloud as you reiterate this concept and then stop for students to predict right as the engine starts to climb the mountain. Students draw the mountain and character climbing up- they can draw a smiley face if they predict that she makes it, sad face if not. Finish the story and check predictions! *Prints

This is a fun game and resource to implement in any training based on Family Involvement. It can be used with families at a back to school night so parents know how and why to get involved. It is also a great engagement piece if delivering a staff development on Family Involvement with educators. Pair it with fun prizes for an enjoyable ice breaker!
