In this project students will be tasked with creating a business and using their knowledge of systems of equations to determine if it will be profitable. Here is an outline of the project Day 1 - Determine what to sell, write a mission statement and make a logo Day 2 - Create an equations for the cost of making one item and an equation for the price to sell the item at Day 3 - Solve the system of equation to determine when the business will be profitable Day 4 - Build a prototype of your produc
In this project students with explore key features of parabolas like the vertex and x-intercepts using straw rockets. The project is best done with Pitsco Straw Rocket Launchers, but can also be easily acheived by using two different sizes of straws.
In this project students will find the volume and surface area of a box of food and then use scale factor to create a new box at half the size. They will then find the volume and surface area of the miniature box and compare the two boxes.
In this project students are asked to plan a trip to an amusement park in California or Florida. The project is built as a choose your own adventure where students have to write equations, evaluate functions and solve 2 step equations to determine whether they should fly or drive, what hotel to stay in, the price of tickets and the overall cost of their trip. At the end, I love to have students decorate a pair of ears to wear to the park!
