This is a great project to introduce students to the elements of Geometry (typically the first unit of the year). Students will either write an original story, or modify an existing children's book with the goal of highlighting the elements of Geometry and how they appear in the world around us. A task sheet, rubric and partial student sample are included as a guide.

This project allows students to master constructing the centroids of different types of triangles (right, obtuse, acute and isosceles). If successful, students will "see" visually with their mobile that the centroid is the center of gravity and is unique for creating a point of balance. There is an interesting real world connection to art with students constructing a mobile of their own.
