Integrating art with social studies is the objective of this project. Students will be using the material presented in social studies books about The Trail of Tears, illustrations of what the journey might have looked like, and maps to create a "triptych", or a three-paneled illustration of one concept. This project is designed for students to select a country of South America of their choosing and research various aspects of that country, such as the government, the people, the culture, etc. A page explaining basic references is also included along with a rubric for the project. This is a project about South America but could easily be modified to be about any country, any continent, or any state. It could also be adapted to be used for a science concept or a piece of literature.
The US Postal Service commemorates many famous people and events through postage stamps. This is a project commemorating famous people or places/events in Ancient Greece or Rome. Students will be creating a postage stamp and writing at least a half-page report about the subject of the stamp. A rubric is included.
This is a short biography and crossword puzzle on the life of Sacajawea. The reading level is about 6.1. Could be used as part of differentiated instruction or a project.
