About the store
I have enjoyed 35 years of experience as an English teacher, tutor, educational business owner, special education teacher, reading specialist, diagnostician, and administrator. For 14 years, I was the Academic Support Coordinator for a top high-achieving, highly-awarded K-12 Core Knowledge charter school in Fort Collins, CO, and was able to practice the tools that I bring to you in an academic setting rather than just one to one during tutoring. I am so blessed to have had the opportunities to help those with learning disabilities and ADHD and to see their success unfold!

Dyslexia Drills

Because dyslexics struggle mightily with consonant blends and sequencing, this set of flashcards was designed to work on three skills at once - initial consonant blends, short vowel practice, and sequencing of blends versus non-blends. Key to instruction is teaching blends as two or three consonant sounds put together with no vowel sounds in between. Consonant sounds by themselves carry very little volume. It is the vowel sounds that give oomph to words. Thus, when you say "br" loudly, you have

Reading Decoding Game - Cracking "The Code" to Reading

The "Reading Decoding Game" is by far the best tool in my toolbox for working with beginning readers and those with reading problems. Once children have been explicitly taught "the code" (see my free offering, "Vowel Phonogram Chart" on TpT), this game allows them to move to the next stage - to put their knowledge into practice. Using "nonsense words" as game cards allows students to rely solely on their new-found decoding skills to blend sounds into words. While at first, beginning readers or t

This set of flashcards provides practice with consonant blends, consonant digraphs, and short vowel sounds - all rolled into one. Key to instruction is teaching blends as two or three consonant sounds put together with no vowel sounds in between. Consonant sounds by themselves carry very little volume. It is the vowel sounds that give oomph to words. Thus, when you say "br" loudly, you have inserted the R-controlled vowel in between - i.e. "bER." This is fine when stating the blend by itself, bu

"Vowel Bingo" is a fun way for students to learn and practice the 18 vowel sounds of the English language that lead to better reading and spelling when mastered. Game Overview: The object of Vowel Bingo is for a player to win a “bingo” by placing his or her playing pieces accurately on the squares of his or her bingo card with a requisite number in a row for a “bingo”. Players must choose one of the graphemes (spelling) for the phonogram (vowel sound) called out by the game leader. There may

The English language is made up of approximately 18 vowel sounds even though we only have five vowels, like many other languages. While it is true that some children can learn to read by reading and memorizing words, they still will falter later on when decoding larger, newer words if they don't have "the code". Other children do not learn to read unless they are explicitly taught "the code". Most students know the consonants and their blends, but tend to have the most difficulty with vowel sou

I love using my series, “Cooking up Sentences,” to help my students learn proper sentence structure while building good writing. Unfortunately, some students have difficulty varying their sentence parts. Students use “Parts of Speech – Quick Reference” to understand what constitutes each part of speech, but certain learners need more help coming up with variations to make more colorful sentences. “Cooking Up Sentences – Seasoning Sentences” provides more interesting word choices to vary their w

Having basic skills is crucial…but it can be made more fun if it can be taught with a game and boiled down to simplicity, especially for those students with learning difficulties or for those easily bored! ;-)
