Basic Math Computations Cheat Sheet

Created by

This sheet combines the "how to" and examples for basic math computations including converting percent to decimals, rounding, decimals, fractions, mean, etc. I would provide this sheet to my students at the start of the school year and require they keep it in their binders. This was a great resource to look back on and consult throughout the year.

Page of Fractions

I used this page of fractions for multiple activites. One example is simplest form. I would ask the students to flip over the paper and circle any fractions that are in simplest form. I would then have them convert the others to simplest form. Another example is addition. I would have the students cut out the fractions and pull from the pile to add on their paper. (This would work with subtraction, multiplication, and division as well.)

Perfect Squares Board (1-100)

After discussing perfect squares in class, I would pass out this Perfect Squares Board copied on both sides. I would ask students to circle the numbers they thought would be a perfect square. I would then ask students to flip over their papers and circle the numbers that ARE perfect squares. (I would give them a few minutes in class to do the calculations.) We would then discuss the results (i.e. surprised by the number, how many were correct, etc.).

About the store

Experience

I began my teaching career teaching middle school mathematics. After four wonderful years at the junior high level, I then moved to adult education and have been teaching at the college level for five years.

Teaching style

I am a big proponent of hands-on learning and student-centered lessons, activities, and projects. Make material relatable to students is a must!

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was awarded the Teacher of the Year at Hale Middle School when I taught 7th grade mathematics. I was thrilled to receive the honor in my third year of teaching.

My own education history

I have a bachelor's degree in education (business education major and mathematics minor) and a master's degree in educational technology.

Additional biographical information

I am currently a tenured faculty member at a community college.
