I found success teaching 8th grade English Language Arts for three consecutive years. I also have experience teaching at the 6th grade and 10th grade levels.
Use this editable/modifiable resource to help introduce Narrative Writing to your middle school and earlier high school students! This resource is ideal earlier on (beginning or middle) in a Narrative Writing Unit and introduces students to some of the basic elements. This resource is a 7-page packet and is NOT meant to supplement an entire unit--it's simply to help kickstart a lesson or unit, and will go hand-in-hand with other resources/activities you choose to provide :) Tips: When I did
Use this editable/modifiable Book Report Project Choice Board geared towards middle schoolers and high schoolers! This would go great with independent reading, but you can also adapt it to work with a whole class novel study. The project choices work best with fiction. My 8th graders had so much fun working on this project! They loved having the choice, which got higher engagement as a result. The 1st year I did this, I had the kids do a Gallery Walk at the end. The 2nd year and beyond, I had
This simple, modifiable Google Slides deck offers 8 different/various prompts that are perfect for the end of an English or ELA class. This Slides deck offers quick wrap-up reflections and activities that are easy to tack on to the end of a lesson or quiz. Whether you're planning to incorporate it into your day, or you unexpectedly find extra time and pull it up on a whim, simply choose one slide (or give your students 2-3 options to choose from!) for them to complete by the end of class. Tip:
NOTE: These discussion prompts were geared towards project share-outs I had my students do in small groups after they completed their projects for the “Book Report - Project Choice Board,” which is another resource I have on my TeachersPayTeachers page! Feel free to use the two together, or adapt/modify this resource for your own activities and objectives :) If you and your students enjoyed this, I'd love to hear about it! My students had a blast - Enjoy!
This is the perfect bell ringer or short activity coming back from Thanksgiving Break! I know sometimes we’re a little tight on time (trying to finish a unit, modified schedules, etc.), but it’s always good to spend a little time, even just 5 minutes, to ease students back in. This activity is short and sweet, and allows your class to do exactly that!

Experience
I found success teaching 8th grade English Language Arts for three consecutive years. I also have experience teaching at the 6th grade and 10th grade levels.
Teaching style
While my focus is to differentiate instruction and to challenge and support all levels in reading and writing (and speaking and listening), I promote and incorporate social emotional learning (SEL) as well. I am all about teaching the whole student.
Awards & shining teacher moments
At the end of my first year teaching 8th grade ELA, I received an award from my school nominated by the students.
My own education history
I graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with my bachelor's degree in English and Secondary Education. I recently earned my endorsement in ESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) through the University of St. Francis as well.
