In this activity, students will be able to go through the process of meiosis by modeling the major steps of meiosis 1 and meiosis 2, the emphasis is one crossing-over and independent assortment in creating variation in the gametes created. Students will use gametes from Smiley Variation Part 1 with a partner to create a smiley offspring. They should then compare their offspring to others to notice differences. This covers concepts of genotypes, phenotypes, homologous pairs, alleles, fertilization, zygote, gamete, and variation.

Students will design 6 alien traits as a culminating activity for the different types of inheritance.
