Οι λέξεις-εικόνες διακρίνονται σε βασικές κατηγορίες (οικογένεια, ζώα, φαγητά, κ.ά.) και προτείνονται τρόποι χορήγησης τους τόσο από επαγγελματίες όσο και από γονείς/φροντιστές των παιδιών.
