Match the groundhogs with the correct hole in the ground. The groundhogs have words that need either -s or -es added to them. They will sor tand glue the groundhogs into the correct category.

I used this activity for the week before Christmas break. I made both kinds (homemade and store bought) hot chocolate. They tasted both without knowing which was homemade. They used observation to make a prediction. I incorporated the idea that scientists use their 5 senses to make predicitons.

I used this with my unit on Polar Express. It can also be used for train unit or just for fun. Each car of the train has a sentence on it. The students identify the parts of speech. They build their own gold to carry on their train car. I will modify based on your purpose for the lesson. I can do it with simple, compound, complex, kinds of sentences, certain part of speech. I have attached 20 train cars with simple sentences. They are able to identify nouns and verbs in these sentences.

Match the gold with the correct kettle. 10 gold pieces with different sentences on them 3 black pots labeled simple, compound, and complex. Copy page 3 on yellow construction paper.

I use these to practice subtraction. The students will have cotton balls, white and black paint. They will use the cotton ball like a paint brush. Sometimes I let them cut out the snowman and glue it on construction paper.

I use this to practice subtracting with borrowing. I give the students a cotton ball for each color of paint. I will have them solve problems on a separate sheet of paper so I can see their work.

I use these to practice fluency of subtraction facts. I will often use them over and over again because the students don't always gets the same problem. Includes: 24 cards with 3 digit subtraciton

This idea will be good for winter time. It is a different way to do a book report. I have my students read a book and share their book with their snowman. I am letting my students make thier snowman out of poster board so it is big enough to display. You may use the attached pages to make a paper size snowman. They should have plenty of room to build their snowman.

Math Center or Game for kids to play The students roll 3 dice. They make a number with the 3 digits. They roll the dice again. They make another number. They subtract the two numbers. Then they round the difference to the nearest hundred and ten. The students are practicing subtraction and rounding. Record Sheet included. To make it a game: If they rounded up, get two points. If they rounded down get one point. Who ever has the most points at the end wins.

Students will roll dice use playing cards to make a three digit number. They will then decide how many tens are in their number. I added a place for them to use their number to make a addition problem. It reinforces base ten and addition.

I use this graphic organizer for opinion writing. It is used for Opinions with text. This organizer is a basic (not pretty) graphic organizer. I use it to introduce opinion writing.
