A step-by-step approach to reading, annotating and understanding poetry. This guide provides students with easy to follow instructions for understanding any poem. It helps students move from the figurative level to the deeper meaning. Steps include reading for the topic, marking up the poem for language and structure, and finally determining the deeper meaning and the theme.

Students will use this activity to compare the points of view of Kit and Nat, as well as Kit and John on various topics. The chart includes step-by-step instructions and learning targets.
