About the store

Experience

I've taught 7th grade English for more than four years, with a focus on exceptional children. I am certified to teach Academically and Intellectually Gifted students K - 12. I had the opportunity to use technology on a one-to-one basis in my classroom for two years.

Teaching style

To engage students in learning, I combine intellectual rigor with fun activities. I believe the role of the teacher as facilitator allows students to discover the joys and benefits of learning. My focus for curriculum development is the Common Core standards.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I developed curriculum for my school district after one year of teaching. Member of my county's Strategic Planning Committee, a cross-functional team that developed a district mission and 5-year educational plan.

My own education history

BA English/Journalism: Southern CT State University NC Teach: NC State University AIG Certification: Eastern Carolina University

Additional biographical information

I love doing yoga! Reading is a favorite pastime of mine -- I know that's surprising for an English teacher. ;) My two children are now adults. My daughter graduated from the University of Virginia and my son attends Appalachian State. They are the light of my life, and I'm very proud of them!
