I started teaching at Richton Elementary immediately after finishing student teaching, before I finished my senior recital and got my degree. I'm in my first FULL year at Richton, and LOVING teaching K-6 Music.
I love zebra print materials, but not many exist for a music classroom, so I'm creating my own, and thought I'd share them with you! The first is this instrument family poster game set. You can use velcro to attach the images to the correct family poster for the duration of the year or for the time that you're teaching the unit, then remove the images and have students place the instruments on the correct poster as an assessment or enrichment activity, or for a game in a music center. Black and white version. All letters black, arial font. I will be uploading other versions, including changing fonts and changing colors of vowels. Let me know if you need one of these versions before I get them uploaded! Print smaller (two or four to a page) and use as flashcards.
This item is based on the Project Read system, which I did not create. I made this small set of flash cards to use in my interventions. I will add each set as I go. I use them not only as flash cards to flash to a small group. I also have the students flip them over as a game and say each word: if they say it correctly, they keep the card. If not, they put it back on the table face down. The person with the most cards wins (usually a sticker.) Could be used as assessments as well. Call out the w
This number bond recording sheet can be used with number bond flashcards (like I use in class), or by rolling two die and creating a number bond, or by displaying specific number bonds (with missing numbers) on an anchor chart and having students fill in the number bonds and addition and subtraction sentences. First grade standards for addition and subtraction written on the worksheet.

I use this PowerPoint to have students pick the word (from two choices) that rhymes with the word at the top of the sheet. Use without showing for Phonemic Awareness. Present on the board in order to point out similarities and differences and match the rime. Print and laminate for center activities.
This poster is a reminder that chatter isn't necessary. I tell my kids pretty often that "commentary is not necessary," and I find them telling each other in the hall this if someone is mumbling and grumbling about what the teacher is telling them to do. Teaching style
Every kid deserves a chance, but I can't do it for you. Kids have to be engaged and "caught" in order to learn, rather than just watching videos and doing busywork. Nothing makes my heart happier than a kid falling in love with a new song or an instrument he or she has never seen before in his or her life.
