Greetings! My name is Cynthia Hockman-Chupp and during my teaching career I've taught just about everything: math, literature, writing, social studies, art, science, and drama. (I even had one stint teaching freshman girls' p.e.!) I have a M.S.Ed. and am certified to teach grades K-12; I've taught almost every grade in some capacity. Most recently, I've been a teacher, curriculum consultant/developer, and workshop facilitator, working with public schools, homeschools, and my own "laboratory school" in which I teach students from a wide variety of educational backgrounds.

Feelings Journal: a Method to Help Process Feelings and Develop Emotional Skills
This Feelings Journal is designed to be used as a child is struggling with a feeling. During a moment of anger, frustration, fear, etc., rather than continuing to carry the miserable feeling, the child takes a moment to:
1. Stop
2. Reflect:
What emotion am I feeling? (name it)
How big is that feeling? (give it a number)
3. Open the feelings toolbox (child chooses from list of activities that can help change the mood)
What can I do to change my mood? Do it.

Fairy Tale Character WANTED Posters
In this WANTED poster assignment, students describe the antagonist or villain in a fairy tale. Student directions are included. (Student directions are best utilized in grades 3 & up.) You may choose to print posters with a variety of infamous villains, or you may copy a blank “mugshot” option so that students can create their own.

Fairy Tale, Folktale Characteristics Poster
I created this poster to help students consider the characteristics of fairy tales and folk tales; it emphasizes how fairy tales are one type of folktale. We used it as a discussion tool and then students kept a copy for their language arts notebooks.

Fairy Tale Map: Exploring Setting
This story map assignment helps students focus on SETTING in a fun, creative way. Students use a handout, "Fairy Tale Map: Setting" to keep track of the locations in a story they read. Using the guidelines provided, they then make a map of those locations. Student work samples are included along with an optional sample to print: "Journey of the Big Bad Wolf."
I have successfully used this assignment with students in grades 4 & up. Depending on how the teacher presents them, they could be enjoy

Journaling with Top 10 Lists
Looking to light a fire in student journal writing? Use some "Top Ten" lists to get kids motivated!
With these journal prompts, students record up to ten items on topics like:
"If I could go back in time, I would visit..." (then list up to 10 items)
"Things I do in my spare time..." (then list up to 10 items)
"It's a great day when my fridge contains..." (then list up to 10 items)
