Students learn about the importance and usefulness of math in the real world from the people that use it most......everyone! Students will be introduced to the project through a brief letter. They will set out to interview three different people with three different careers to determine just how useful math can be in everyday life. Next, students work their way through the writing process to create a well-written and well-organized three paragraph essay based upon the results of their interv

Students work collaboratively to research various aspects of New England Colonies such as religion, government, education, recreation, etc. Upon completion of the research students create a poster to share during a presentation. Includes and introduction, step-by-step instructions, format for recording important information, and more.

This fun research project allows students to select an animal of their choice to research and learn about habitat, hunting, and more. Students will write a four paragraph essay following a simple template created after completing research. Includes forms for peer conferencing and editing. Also, the lesson walks the students step-by-step through the process of designing a powerpoint presentation on paper before using the computer. Includes evaluation form as well.

Students create a brochure to welcome the incoming students at the start of the next school year. The "Story Pie" is a way for students to display important information about a novel read independently or as a group. This journal sized comprehension unit can be printed out and stapled into a booklet, or it can easily be glued into an existing journal students are using. Activities and comprehension questions go along with the chapters of the novel to better assist students in grasping the ideas behind the story.

This format serves as a simple and easy-to-use template for students when responding to any type of extended response when reading novels, short passages, non-fiction text, etc. Students incorporate evidence from the passage as support followed by their own thoughts, ideas, opinions. Template then transfers easily into a formal paragraph.

Contains job sheets for literature circles that can easily fit into a small journal of sorts. Includes a description of the responsibilities involved as well as a contract for students and parents to sign indicating their understanding. Literature circles are a nice way to create independence amongst small groups allowing the teacher to pull small groups for lessons, conferencing, etc.
