There are two sets (26 letters) of the QWERTY keyboard, created on one handout. The students are to cut out the top portion and leave those 26 letters at home to practice, then the set on the bottom should be left at school. My goal this year is to have all of my students know where all of their 26 letters are placed on their keyboard. In order for this to occur I have been brainstorming creative ideas - what better way than to make it into a game.
I do encourage you to have each student place
After students take the common assessment for their typing speeds, I send out a Google Survey to collect their scores and then compile them onto these visuals. Our hope is to see an increase in their typing speeds throughout the quarter. The kids are super motivated to attempt to reach the next animal.
Here is a document to help for typing assessments. Speeds are associated with animal speeds. Students enjoy seeing progress as they move onto a different animal with their typing gains.
I send the students a simple Google Form that they need to fill in documenting their speeds and then I place the classroom totals onto the photos of the animals that are used to represent their typing speeds. See Part 2 for visuals.
I plan on having my students document their speeds into a Google Sheet or an
This is a visual keyboarding/typing assessment or handout that will allow the students to track their progress throughout the class, by charting their Words A Minute progress.
These sheets can be used to track student progress throughout the length of the class. I would suggest using a different color marker each day or compile their average at the end of each week.
