There are 10 games in all. There are short vowel (6), long vowel (2), blends (1), and consonant digraph (1) matching games. Print the games. Put the picture game boards in plastic sleeves. Students pick a picture card and say the name of the picture. They will dab the answer on the paper to show the beginning sound, middle sound or ending sound depending on which sound they are working on. My kids love using dabbers and this is a great way to practice sounds.

Roll and Cover
This game can be played with either one or two players. You will need one, two, or three dice and a set of counters for each student. Each game board tells you how many dice you need. The first student rolls the dice and counts the dots. Place a counter on that number. If you roll the dice and that number is covered you lose your turn. The first student to cover the last number wins. Have fun!!!!
K.CC.B.4A I can name the number for each thing in a group as I count them.

This is a fun way to practice reading short and long vowel words. Each player needs a different color pen or pencil. Take turns reading any word on the board. Then draw one line connecting any two dots surrounding that word with their color. If your line is the last line to form a box around the square you get the square so color it in. When all the boxes are colored in, count to see who has the most boxes. The player who colors the most squares wins!

Here are journal-writing ideas for each month of the year. There are four prompts for most months that are written in a close sentence form. Then, for each prompt there are six pictures and ideas to finish the sentence. They can choose one of them or write their own. They will also illustrate what they write about. I will write the prompt on a sentence strip and post it along with the ideas for the prompt on the pocket chart. I do journal writing once a week.
Print the picture cards, laminate and then cut pictures apart. Each child will also need the Rhyming Words page to write the matching words. You will need a set of picture cards for each pair or students. Have them take turns playing Memory with the cards. After they have matched each card with the other rhyme they can then write the rhymes on the page. Have them reread their rhymes by segmenting each word. If they have time have them turn their paper over and write a sentence using both rhyming

Students roll two die. They count or add them up and subtract whatever the number on the game board says. Whatever answer they get they will cover with a two color counter. One student uses the yellow counter and the other student uses the red counter. If they roll and their answer is already covered they lose a turn. The student to cover the most numbers wins.

Students can practice decomposing numbers from 5-10. They will fill the counting board with cubes, counters, and fish, or what. They then count to see how many they needed and write that number in the box by more. Then they will write the number sentence that tells about the counters. This is great practice to be able to really understand number combinations.
I cut these sheets in half and grouped them by the decomposing number. I put a ring around all the 5’s and 6’s, etc. so that the student
