About the store
I have been teaching for over fifteen years and have taught at a number of schools for dyslexic students. When teaching decoding and encoding I apply a variety of multisensory Orton-Gillingham based programs including The Wilson Reading System. I am sensitive to the needs of the students I work with as many of them are struggling in school and I enjoy helping the students with whom I work gain the confidence and skills they need to achieve academic success.

Experience

I have been teaching for over fifteen years and have taught at a number of schools for dyslexic students. When teaching decoding and encoding I apply a variety of multisensory Orton-Gillingham based programs including The Wilson Reading System. I am sensitive to the needs of the students I work with as many of them are struggling in school and I enjoy helping the students with whom I work gain the confidence and skills they need to achieve academic success.

Teaching style

I love helping my students become successful readers and writers! Helping a student achieve literacy is a wonderful accomplishment. My goal is to help as many students as possible to become successful learners whether this is by providing them with direct individualized instruction or by giving them instructional tools to enable improvement of their literacy skills.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I love being able to help former non-readers keep up with the material presented at their grade level.

My own education history

I have my Master of Arts in Reading and Learning Disabilities from Columbia University, Teachers College. My undergraduate degree is from Vassar College from which I graduated in 1993. I have also studied at the Sorbonne and the Ecole du Louvre.

Additional biographical information

I have taught at schools for students with language based learning disabilities in New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. I currently tutor students privately in Connecticut and enjoy creating teaching materials for my students. In my free time I love to read, spend time with my family, play with my daughters, garden and take walks with my dogs.
