My Special Number Math Project

A highly engaging math project! Always a big hit in my classroom! Students choose a number between 10 and 100, exploring both its mathematical and real-world significance. A great way to extend studies of even and odd numbers, factors and GCF, multiples and LCM, primes, composites, prime factorizations, etc. Also great for making math real, accessible, and interesting! Now includes a grading rubric based upon the Standards Based Grading system (or the Four-Point, A-F scale). Appropriate for thir

A great way for students to apply and use basic statistics: mean, median, mode, range, outlier, categorical and numerical data, and graph types. Incorporates Excel. Fun, engaging, and easy to teach. Also, a great way for "tweens" to learn that no one is "typical." Appropriate for third through eighth grade. I use it with my fifth and sixth graders and it is always a huge hit! The results also look great on our bulletin board!

Attractive and accessible math vocabulary posters based on fifth grade and sixth grade Common Core Standards. Posters include the vocabulary word, the most simple definition of the word, a more precise definition, and examples. In color, but still look great in black and white. Many include pictures! Looks great when mounted on blue construction paper. Appropriate for fifth grade or sixth grade, remedial seventh or eighth grade, or highly capable (gifted) third or fourth grade.

Project includes a project overview for students, potential topics of study, an essay outline, and detailed teacher notes. Works well within grade levels where the human body or human growth and development is studied. Allows students to pursue a topic of interest related to the science unit being conquered in the classroom. Encourages students to explore scienti

A great way to make the Commutative and Associative Properties of Addition and Multiplication more accessible. First, introduce the properties for addition. Then, have the students work through this worksheet. Finally, connect the addition properties to the multiplication properties. This incorporates both traditional and constructivist math teaching principals, and is always a big hit in my fifth/sixth grade math classroom!
