Sometimes it’s hard to find ways to get beginning level ESL students to speak up in the beginning of the year. One easy thing I’ve done in my classes to overcome this challenge is to have my students create a collage or poster about themselves and present it to a group of 3-4 students.
I find that having students present in groups makes everyone feel more comfortable to speak up and ask questions that help everyone get to know each other too.
