Making Readers

Main idea is now Central Idea! New name, same concept! Your students can cut and paste this into their reading notebooks for a strategy that helps them to better determine the central idea of a text. They can use it as a reference when they are first learning how to do this important comprehension skill.

One of the activities that helps students learn diphthongs is for them to recognize them, write them down and collect them in one place where they can reread them. This dictionary can be used during and after instruction about diphthongs especially if you are using a decodable text.

I created these cards to help our grade 3-5 students be able to write a short response better. I put them in my student’s writer’s notebook as a reference. This was great for state test prep!

These two lists are great to use in your ELA notebooks during guided reading and independent reading time. It helps the students to keep track of what books they read and what books they want to read. Students are also able to rate each book they read and determine the genre of the book so that they can easily know what genre they like best.
