This number line is an effective way to present numbers and operations in base ten. It is a tool that helps to show modeling and can be kept up all year. The number is written as a word, shown as a number and modeled using base ten blocks.

This number line is in line with common core's emphasis on numbers and operations in base ten for first grade. The number line has the number in both numerical and word form, the twist is that below there is a visual representation of each number using tens and ones blocks. By having this on display through the year visual learners will absorb and solidify the concept of number sequence and place value. This version of this product has a safari (leaf) background.

This 9 page PDF contains 2 pictures of common math manipulatives including: ones, tens, hundreds, tape measures, square counters, cuisenaire rods, pattern blocks and cubes. There are two pictures of each. One picture can be placed on the actual container and the other picture goes on the shelf or wherever the permanent place is in the room. By using both visuals along with words all children can assist in the cleanup process!

In presenting addition using common core, children are expected to visualize number patterns, without necessarily having to count them. The patterns up to the number six should follow those of a die, however past 6, a ten frame is necessary. This PDF document contains the visual patterns from 1 to 6 on a safari themed background.
