Spatial Patterns for mental addition (die- Common Core)
This PDF can be used on the smartboard (or any projector) as tool to reinforce common core's emphasis on familiarity with spatial patterns. I set a goal, depending on your children's ability. Last year my goal was 60 in a minute, if the kids could reach that goal I gave them a pizza party. Once that goal was reached we decided on another goal (240 in 2 mins. ) Have fun with it, initially make sure that they point to the larger number and count on OUT LOUD for the smaller number. A mix of whatever works for the current class. I prefer small group work, collaborative thinking and promoting independence. I like kids to discover the rule taught after observation.
