This slide show is in a PDF version. It contains vocabulary/ spelling words spelled -dge, which make the /j/ sound. There are ten words and multiple pictures for each word. I use this while working on the -dge spelling pattern (about one week). We go through the pictures/ words and spell each one to a musical beat. This helps target multiple senses to retain the new words.
I use this power point in my first grade science unit. It goes through the basics of kinds of land, water and air. This aligns with Scott Foresman's science unit for first grade.
I help the children retain new words using a musical beat, visual aids and singing while spelling. This PDF contains 10 words which each have multiple pictures.
I put these up on the Smartboard in my classroom and we play lighting round...the children line up and we read through the words as fast as possible, start with a goal and a reward like 60 words in 90 seconds, and then shortening the time. Each child reads the next word. This activity lets them move and have fun!
This PDF can be used on the smartboard (or any projector) as tool to reinforce common core's emphasis on familiarity with spatial patterns. I set a goal, depending on your children's ability. Last year my goal was 60 in a minute, if the kids could reach that goal I gave them a pizza party. Once that goal was reached we decided on another goal (240 in 2 mins. ) Have fun with it, initially make sure that they point to the larger number and count on OUT LOUD for the smaller number. This is importan
Use the 'sign' feature of PDF's to include your students' names. You can then print however many you need, one for each target skill of the week. Keep these on a clip board and now your grading is much easier and more accurate.
This is a fun way to make a connection with the kids, and leave a good impression on parents before school even starts! What kid doesn't love getting mail?

Teaching style
A mix of whatever works for the current class. I prefer small group work, collaborative thinking and promoting independence. I like kids to discover the rule taught after observation.
