Hi! This chart works great as a way to have students annotate a text. These symbols help the students connect more deeply with what they are reading. I usually have the students annotate a text on the second reading. If they can't write on the text, they could write these symbols on post-its and place the post-its on their text. I hope you find this useful and your students enjoy using thesymbols, as well. I have included a color copy and a black and white copy.

Character Education, For All Subjects, Graphic Arts
These cards display one each of 12 different universal themes. Many of these themes come from Sandra Kaplan's research on gifted and talented students. These are concepts or generalizations that can help connect topics and disciplines (math, language arts, science, art, etc.). They can increase the depth and complexity of classroom instruction and the work students do. I refer to these during the school day to help my students see the interrelationships between everything they do land learn.
