My classroom has moved into the 21st Century. One key change has been to personalized learning. This rubric enables students to stay accountable during our math hour. It's a way for them to know what they're accountable for, and then enables me to see the progress they made too. It's easy, fun and quick. Welcome to a rubric that students love. Famous African American Unit. I've included a rubric, project description, list of Famous African Americans, and a letter for parents. All you have to do is edit my name and you're good to go. While setting this unit up I've made sure that it covers numerous Common Core standards. Students have a choice to present their research as a report, Power Point or any other medium they wish. My goal is to make sure they enjoy this part of history.

I firmly believe that there's more to grading than just correct or incorrect answers. What if a student shows all their work? Shouldn't they get credit? What is they participate throughout your lesson? Shouldn't they get credit with that too? After 30 years in this amazing career I firmly believe this is the correct way to assess students in a fair manner, while still showing how they're progressing in math.

One of the fifth grade standards is to understand history in chronological order. The students have this list of 12 items from American History, need to research the items, put it into a timeline program, then print it and make it their own. It's great to hear the students understand where these important items sit in American History. I've also included the covered standards below. Have fun.

With the changing around of the standards understanding all parts of fractions are key! With this quiz you'll be able to tell quickly if your students can change an improper fraction to a mixed number. This review is very important to the understanding of fractions as a whole. This will surely challenge your students. This is one of the many standards covered within the MAPS test, and many other state tests. It will give you, and your students a snap shot whether they know the conversion standard of grams to milligrams and back again. The answer key is included.

Year after year I have students who tell me they watch football on and off through the weekend. So, I put this standards-based math sheet together for them to enjoy as they're watching some games. This sheet can be used for ANY level of football. This could be used as a grade or simply a motivational piece to earn some sort of reward. :) PLEASE enjoy this short sheet to help you assess some of your students math skills.

This is a great way to inspire your students to learn their facts. It's a challenge ladder situation that has continued for year after to help my students and others enjoy learning their multiplication facts. It can be used at virtually any grade level that is in need of learning their facts.

Can your students convert inches to feet and back again at a proficient or better level? I've even included a bonus question on this quiz that relates to yards too. As teachers we always wonder if the standards are sticking or if we're covering what we need to. These quizzes will do the trick. There's an answer key included.

Choice! Students do their 20-30 minutes a night reading, and by Friday they turn in this choice log. It allows them to actually enjoy their reading while choosing an assignment that is Common Core Standards based.

This is a great way for students to understand their vocabulary, and learn new standards-based skills in the process. It's very student/teacher friendly. I believe that this card can be used 3rd-6th. I've used it in my classroom for years, and I feel it can easily be adapted.

I firmly believe/support choice with students. This allows(and can be adapted) students to choose items during math that they need extra practice on. I've used these menus for two years now and love them.

I've developed this standards-based reading log that is now loved by students and teachers. It's not your typical 'do an assignment' and get it to the teacher. Students are asked to not only provide a short constructed response, but they also review figurative language, main idea/details, and there's a required parent signature at the end. It's easy, student friendly, and straight forward for teachers. :))) Enjoy!

My students love this challenge! I take math standards in the area of geometry and utilize gumdrops in the process. It's a hit every time. My fifth graders can actually have an hands-on experience when completing this assignment. Besides that it's fun, and the kids leave understanding the meaning of a vertex, line segments, planes and so on.

Students are allowed to choose an activity from the menu which is standards based, and helps them prepare well for their spelling test on Fridays. Students love the choices that are provided.

Do you have access to graph paper? Do you have a way to attach their finish products? If you do, then this is the perfect way for them to demonstrate their understanding of the mathematical skill volume. I've even attached the finished products to bulletin boards outside my room. It was so cool to see the reactions from other staff and students.

Have your students ever wondered what their peers really thought of their speech? This sheet makes it super easy for them to see how their class felt. It also keeps the audience focused on the presenter. This has been a great tool for my classroom, and my students love getting the feedback.

Vocabulary can be a 'task' for students. These choices allow students to learn their words for the week in such a way that it benefits them. I feel that these choices can be utilized for any vocabulary list.
