This is a one page scavenger hunt to use in the spring on a walk to the park. It could be used for grade school levels. As the children walk outside, they are asked to use their eyesight and hearing to find objects such as a bud on a tree or the sound of someone mowing their lawn. It can be adapted to other grade levels as well.

This is a 2 page word document for Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. I have also posted it in pdf format. It is a scramble activity with names of gods, goddesses, and some mythical creatures. After you unscramble the names, you put letters in the boxes at the bottom to create a phrase about the book. ~created by Miss J

The first student reads his/her definition which starts "Who has a word that means......." The person who has the word matching that definition replies "I have.....", then read the definition on their slip of paper. Eventually, the game will circle back around to the first person again. My 5th and 6th grade students LOVE this activity for learning vocabulary an

My students have lockers, so they have to find everything in their lockers, but students with desks could find each item in their personal desks. Enjoy! ~created by Miss J.

My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln and Christopher Collier is a widely challenged book, but is often recommended to be used in 5th grade curriculum to teach about the American Revolutionary War. When I use this book/novel with my 5th grade reading class, I first send home a parent letter explaining what the book is about and why I am using it in my classroom. The letter does not have to be signed and returned, but I give ext

This is an activity for making an ABC book for a class field trip or class activity, but could be modified for any type of ABC book. It includes instructions, a grading rubric, and a gist sheet (or graphic organizer) for a rough draft ABC book. The actual ABC book is then constructed on readwritethink.org. The document is in word and prints on legal sized paper, but can be reduced if needed. I used this with 5th graders after our class field trip, but it can be used with any middle grade lev
