Science Olympiad Code Busters 2026 Division B

Codebusters for Science Olympiad Division B: UPDATED FOR 2026!!!I have four grade 6 students who wanted to try Codebusters this year for the Science Olympiad. We don't compete competitively in SciOly, but they are keen, so I wanted to create something they could enjoy. I tried using the resources online, but they are not middle school-friendly (especially EAL-friendly). So, I made this resource booklet for these kids to learn code-busting and have fun while doing it! Since I cannot be there sup

60+ Science Fair Topics- UPDATED

Every year my students from grades 6-8 participate in science fair, and every year the same challenges occur. Students cannot pick a strong science fair topic and research question to study and their projects end up being a flop! Last year I began compiling all the best science fair topics and created this FABULOUS resource. I have updated this resource on April 3rd, 2019. I fixed up some of the language and grammar and added a few more topics. We just finished our science fair. The winning p

Potions and Poisons Science Olympiad Division B 2026

This is the second year of Potions and Poisons. This is a tough event for my mostly Grade 6 and 7 team. I created this resource to help them build upon their previous skills each week and learn all the necessary LAB topics for Potions and Poisons. I used the 2026 rule book and the SciOly Wiki to create this series of 9 lab experiments. This is my prediction of what I think they will do at the competition. Either way, your students will have fun preparing for their competition date! I cannot su

PHET Circuit Simulation Worksheet

Using the PHET simulator on building circuits and need a worksheet to go with it? This is the one! In this activity, students will learn how to make parallel and series circuits, how to draw circuit diagrams and discuss the relationship between current, voltage, and power. I used this when I INTRODUCED circuits and circuit drawings to my students, so they were learning as they went! The first sheet was my introduction to the lesson. I had students draw two circuits, and then we discussed the d

Science Olympiad Potions and Poisons Div B 2025 UPDATED

Potions and Poisons is a new event for us this year. It replaced Can't Judge a Powder from 2024. My team for the Science Olympiad consists primarily of 6th and 7th graders, and it can be challenging for them to learn all the concepts they need for the competition. I created this resource to help them build upon their previous skills each week and learn all the LAB topics they need for Potions and Poisons. I used the 2025 rule book and the SciOly Wiki to create this series of 6 lab experiments. T

Reading Graduated Cylinders Lab

I was looking for a walk-around lab for my Grade 6 students to do while they are learning to read graduated cylinders. I taught them how to read them, and then had students walk around the lab to 6 different stations and read the cylinders. I added some water to them, and had the students record and draw the amount of water in each. Just a fun way to get kids out of their seats! You can select whatever amount of volume you want for each one.

Ohms Law + PHET Circuit Simulation

Looking for a lab-based activity using the PHET Circuit Simulation? Look no further! In this activity, students will use the Lab section of the Circuit PHET simulation to collect data. They will investigate current vs. voltage and current vs. resistance. They will graph each set of data. Answer keys are included. I have also included the Ohm's Law worksheet I give the students. I do this as a separate lesson, with additional practice problems, but you can add it to this lesson too if you want.

MYP 1-3 Criteria B: Bouncing Ball Lab (Energy)

Creating authentic MYP assessments can be challenging. No fret! Here is a Criteria B Assessment that is super easy, challenging for the kids, comes with an awesome rubric, and even includes an answer key for moderation! I love sharing the example key with the kids afterwards so they can compare their lab reports and see how they can improve! Or use it as a formative assessment! This lab report involves two things:Task 1: Design an experiment to test the relationship between kinetic and potential

MYP 1 Criteria A K/U Grade 6 and 7 Chemistry Test

This is intended as a summative test for a unit on Matter and Mixtures for a Grade 6 or 7 Science Class in the MYP program. The test should take about 40-50 minutes. Main topics were :-Matter and Particle Theory of Matter -Pure Substances and Mixtures -Elements and Compounds -Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Mixtures -Basic Separation Techniques. I have included the PDF version of the test as well as a link to CANVA, where you can make a copy and edit the test. I have also created a student-fr

Law of Conservation of Matter- 2 Experiments

It is difficult to teach the Law of Conservation of Matter, without using obvious examples like cupcakes and slicing oranges. This resource provides TWO experiments that you can do in the lab that not only will practice your student's measuring and lab skills but will help them understand the law of conservation of mass. I like to use this resource as an inquiry-based activity BEFORE the students learn to balance equations. We also do an MYP Criteria B summative with baking soda and vinegar aft
