This is one of my favorite power points and has always been a great success. This power point was created to introduce the key words and phrases needed for translating simple verbal algebraic expressions and equations. The power point provides a chart to organize key words and phrases for multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, powers, and equals. The power point was made to teach a whole class. This is great power point to use with your class. It focuses on how to change an improper fraction to a mixed number and a mixed number into an improper fraction. There are guided examples and practice problems for students to complete independently while you circulate the room to check for understanding. I have also included sound buttons to enhance this lesson. My students love when I put on sound or music during power point presentations. During practice I leave the music on low while th

This is a fantastic power point lesson on scientific notation. It explains how to write a large number using scientific notation, how to change a number written in scientific notation back to standard form, and the process involving negative exponents. The whole lesson is here! There are plenty of examples to be completed together with your class. The lesson ends with a great partnering activity that allows you to assess students development of the concept. All my power points are common c

This power point explores the concept of how we add fractions with unlike denominators. The power point asks students to compare blood types with different denominators. Students love talking about the different blood types-nice connection to science class. When asked how we can compare these results accurately students should come up with finding a common denominator. Then with the class you can change each fraction to an equivalent reviewing the process. Word problems, a section of practice,

This power point has three Number Properties Quizzes I use in my class to see if my students can identify the following properties: Commutative, Associative, Distributive, Identity, zero and Inverse. You can print them and hand them out for students to keep in their notes or be used as a quick quiz. I love to quickly flash them up on my board and quickly quiz them aloud.

Experience

I currently have 20 years of classroom experience. My certifications include Elementary Education and Special Education. For the past twelve years I have been teaching 6th grade math in a middle school. Before math I taught all core area subjects for sixth, fifth, and fourth grade.

Teaching style

I love teaching! I use a variety of teaching styles in my classroom including direct instruction, guided instruction, exploration lessons, partnering, cooperative group work, neighbor checks, pair shares, carousel activities, stations, centers, and project based learning. When I create power points or flip charts I intend on writing on them and completing problems and notes together with my class. All of my products are used in my classroom before I post them on TpT.
