100 Days of School | Digital Escape Room Activity | 3rd-6th GradeThis year for the 100th day of school, I created a fun little review for my students so we could celebrate the momentous occasion while still getting our math practice in. This digital escape room is a bit different than my usual ones, as it covers multiple topics that span multiple grades. Topics include place value (the hundreds and hundredths specifically), converting simple fractions, decimals, and percents, simple equation sol

What is a digital escape activity?Digital escape activities are the perfect way to change up the format of traditional skills practice activities. Modeled after the popular idea of escape rooms, digital escape activities require codes to "break out" of the activity. Codes are found by answering questions and solving problems, and entered into a pre-constructed Google Form with answer validation activated. If students enter the wrong code, they cannot proceed. In this way, digital escapes offer t

Adding & Subtracting Integers Review | Task Cards | Walk Around ActivityWhat is this?Walk Arounds are activities I use a ton in my 7th and 8th grade math classes with different concepts. Simply print out the posters (laminate if desired) and place around the room. Students can start at any poster, or the teacher can assign each student a starting point. Activity instructions:Have students pick one card to start with. (Spread them out amongst the cards so they don’t get bunched up at one.) They w

This is an activity where two students work independently to write the equations of linear relationships from a table, then collaborate to check their answers. Partner A has Partner B's worksheet answers, and vice versa. There are specific instructions for each partner to not just "grade" each other's work and give the actual answers, but to help his or her partner find the source of the incorrect answer. This is a great activity to teach students how to monitor their own work with the help of a

Notes include the methods for adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and simplifying square roots as required by the 8th grade common core standards. Notes for Teachers: My students use these in their interactive math journals. We use these notes over three days: 1) Adding & subtracting square roots, 2) Multiplying & Dividing square roots, and 3) Simplifying square roots. There are two sets of practice pages incl

One of my favorite types of "worksheets" is the foldable, because students glue it directly into their math journals, instead of asking "Do we need to keep this?" at the end of the lesson. Fellow teachers, you know what I'm talking about. This foldable is a great practice resource for lessons on estimating square roots. The first page covers the logical process of determining the approximate value of a square root and allows students to use calculators to square their approximations and get cl

This foldable has three half pages, with a title page that goes through the three different types of equations students will come across: one solution, no solution, and infinite solutions (aka Identities). I find this is very helpful to my students to have an easy reference when they come across an equation that they realize is not "normal."

Fellow teachers, you know what I'm talking about. I use this practice foldable during my lesson on cube roots. These are half page notes to be glued or taped into an interactive math journal. Notes for Teachers: I use these notes in my students' interactive math journals. As we discuss what makes a number rational vs. irrational, we fill in the blanks and convert each of the numbers on the rational side to fractions. This is an excellent reference for students to go back and review exactly how to distinguish between rational and irrational numbers.

Lesson 3 is on Adding Real Numbers, and has students practicing adding positive and negative integers, fractions, and decimals.
