I have been teaching math for 20 years and my mission is to help my students develop a deep, lasting understanding of mathematics through hands-on and visual learning.
These worksheets are designed to guide learners through the representational stage of the CRA (Concrete, Representational, Abstract) framework, where they draw their own visual models to show understanding. Download the FREE hands-on lesson to accompany this resource here. The worksheets in this download are a scaffold guide to drawing models. In the first part of the worksheet, students will be given the model and will use it to solve the problem. Next, students will be given a problem an
Everything you need to make Fraction Concepts stick! This resource focuses on Fraction Equivalence and how to Compare Fractions with strategies. This resource helps teachers build deep fraction understanding by guiding students through the Concrete, Pictorial/Representational, Abstract (CRA) instructional approach. Inside this resource, you’ll find detailed lesson plans and visual student worksheets designed to help students explore fractions using manipulatives, models, and drawings befor
These are the BEST Multiplication Flashcards you will find! Teaching multiplication facts using strategies is proven to be the most effective way to help students achieve automaticity and fluency. Visual models are given for every fact to show students how to apply the multiplication strategies. Cards are double sided- as students learn their math fact using the visual model, turn over the card and have students practice the fact without the visual model. You will be amazed at how well stud
This resource supports learners through the Concrete and Pictorial stages of the CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) method also known as CRA (Concrete, Representation, Abstract). The worksheets focus on the Pictorial stage, guiding students to create their own visual models to demonstrate understanding. A FREE hands-on lesson to accompany this resource is also included here. In these worksheets, students apply their knowledge of multiplication with Base 10 blocks to draw models, building a b
Teaching math visually is the only way for students to gain a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Teaching math with bar models gives students a visual representation of what it means to find the percent of a number. For detailed instructions on how to use bar models, check out my post on MathHandsOn.com. What this download includes: 1 page of blank bar models that break the whole into 10% increments 1 page of blank bar models that break the whole into 20% increments1 page of bla
Multiplying with Partial Products is a great activity if you are looking to engage students and reach your visual learners. This download covers the 4th grade Numbers and Operations standard for multiplying multi-digit numbers. Visual Models are essential for student understanding in mathematics. This resources provides you with a visual way to teach 3 digit times one digit multiplication. Included in this resourceInteractive Slide that you can assign through Google classroom and have stude
These flashcards are designed to help students build understanding, practice strategies, and develop automaticity with multiplication facts. There are three sets of flashcards: Set 1: Array models with visual representations of the strategiesSet 2: Area models with visual representations of the strategiesSet 3: Blank cards so students can draw or write their own strategiesThe fact cards are designed to be used in a specific order, and are color-coded so both teachers and students can easily se
This 5th Grade Fraction Visual Models Worksheet is designed to bridge the gap between procedures and real understanding. This resource uses clear, area models to help students see why common denominators are needed and how equivalent fractions work—before jumping straight to algorithms. Perfect for building conceptual understanding and supporting all learners!
Fractions as Tenths & Hundredths- Visual Models for Deep UnderstandingHelp your students truly see and understand fractions as tenths and hundredths with this engaging and visual resource! This resource is designed to move beyond memorization and support conceptual understanding through meaningful models and representations. Students will build connections between equivalent fractions as Tenths and hundredths which will lead to their understanding of decimals. In this resource, students will
Adding Fractions as Tenths and Hundredths with visual models! Visual models help students understand math concepts at a deeper level than just working with numbers!
Concrete learning is essential for deep understanding in mathematics. These Odd and Even Task Cards were created to be used with Math Linking Cubes. To determine if a number is odd or even, students will build a tower to represent the number given and thetryn to break the towers in two equal groups. For example, with the number 5, students would build a tower using 5 Linking Cubes. Then, students would try and make two equal sized towers from the 5 blocks. Since it is not possible, 5 is o
If you are looking to make math hands-on, these task cards are the perfect resource to get you started. These cards are standard aligned to the 4th grade concept of multi-digit multiplication. Included in this down are 18 task cards. The front of the card prompts students with a task to be completed with Place Value Disks. The back of the card shows a Pictorial model (how students could draw the answer) and an Abstract answer (how students could solve the problem with numbers). These cards

This quiz will give students an understanding of just how powerful the elimination strategy is for test taking. Directions:Quiz 1 Give student Quiz 1 and have them randomly choose A, B, C, or D for each question 1-20. Students must only choose 1 answer per question. Go over the answers for Quiz 1 and have students write their score at the top of their paper. Quiz 2 Give students Quiz 2. Again, students randomly choose one of the answer choices but this time 2 answers are crossed out. Stud

I have been teaching math for 20 years and my mission is to help my students develop a deep, lasting understanding of mathematics through hands-on and visual learning.
Teaching style
I believe math should be visual so students understand concepts instead of memorizing procedures. Lessons should also relate to real-life so students see a purpose in what they are learning.
Lastly, learning should be fun!
