Students choose a topic taught this year. They create a comic strip based on that topic explaining it to the class. Student have to create a script for their comic strip and once approved, they can log onto www.toondoo.com and create their comic strip. They love it because they can use their creativity.
Equations Hot Seat: I play this as a game after the lesson on solving equations with rational numbers. I line the student desks up in 5 groups in a single file line. I put the first problem up on the Smartboard and every student must work out the problem. Once the back student finds the answer, they pass their answer up to the person in front of them. If that student agrees with the answer, they continue to pass it up until it gets to the front student who then writes it on a whiteboard and
This project requires the students to work in small groups to create a statistical questions, survey their peers. calculate the measures of central tendency, as well as, creating their choice of graph to display their results. There is a great extra credit opportunity for the students to incorporate literacy skills in writing a new article about their findings.
Playing cornhole is a great way to introduce Adding Integers! This Powerpoint lets students review the rules of corn hole then apply them to adding integers. Students will discover the zero pair and the rules of adding integers! Students then will have the opportunity to play corn hole for real! You can do it outside or print off the last slide and let students do it at their desks with the red and yellow integer chips!
Put students in small groups of 2 or 3. Make multiple copies of the rational numbers problems. Give each group the same problems face down and have them write their names on the back. When you tell them to GO, they turn it over to solve the problem. Once solved, they bring it to you, and you tell them if they are correct. If they are, they put the paper in a box, hat, etc and receive the next problem. If they are incorrect, they go back and try to solve again. They don't get the next prob
Cut out each vocabulary word. Group students up and have one student draw a card without looking at the word on the card and hold up to his forehead. Have the other students give clues about the word without using any part of the word in their clues. They need to try to get the student to guess the word.
Played just like the game Taboo. The Algebra Vocab words are at the top of the card. The words listed below it are "off limit" words. The student has to try to get their team to guess the vocab word without saying any of the off limit words.
In 7th grade students are expected to be able to find the Area of a circle with a given Circumference and vice versa. This Powerpoint takes students through how to find the Area given the Circumference and how to find the Circumference given the Area. It includes a real world application problem as well as a performance task at the end.
With the new Indiana standards, 7th graders are required to find the volume of composite 3D figures as rectangular prisms and cylinders. This slideshows gives you the steps necessary to find the volume along with some examples to work through as a class or with a partner.
A hands on activity where students use a map scale and ruler to calculate distances from city to city. They also calculate the cost of gasoline they will need on their trip.
Introduction to Integer and their Opposites review activity. Cut the questions out and put in a basket, bag, bucket, etc. Put kids into small groups and have them pick a question out of the basket randomly and answer to their group. If the group agrees, the next person may go.
I created this primarily for my Remediation Class to review the Distributive Property. They pick a card to start at (doesn't matter which one) The simplify the expression listed at the bottom of the card. Once they simplify it, they look for their answer listed at the top of another card and so forth. They will know they are finished when they get back to their original card. I color coded the cards, so you would know how to cut them.
Students have a difficult time realizing the - sign means "opposite". I created an interactive matching activity where students will have to find their match. A great way to get students up and moving.
With the emphasis on Literacy Standards in every subject area, this activity encourages students to "find the fib", or the false statement about each Math Vocabulary word.
Scavenger Hunt to review comparing, ordering, and all integer operations.
